1. 밴쿠버 중국 커뮤니티에서 할머니들만 콕 집어 노리는 신종 사기가 등장해서 아주 그냥 폼이 미쳤다.

A wild new scam has hit Vancouver's Chinese community specifically zeroing in on grandmothers

2. 11월에만 두 분이 걸려들어서 피해액이 무려 1억 4천만 원이 넘어간다니 말 다했지.

Just in November two folks got totally duped and the damage? We're talking over 130,000 CAD. Enough said, right?

3. 첫 번째 할머니(74세)는 길 가다가 사기단 3명한테 붙잡혔는데, “우리가 부자 만들어주는 개쩌는 풍수지리(집이나 지형을 보고 운세를 점치는 사상) 전문가를 아는데…”라며 빌드업을 시작했대.

The first grandma, a 74-year-old, was just walking along when three scammers approached her. They kicked off their pitch with, “We know this super awesome feng shui master who can make you filthy rich...'

4. 돈다발에 축복을 내려준다면서 집에서 돈 가져와서 가방에 채우라고 꼬드긴거지.

They sweet-talked her into bringing cash from home to fill a bag all while pretending to bless the money bundles

5. 할머니가 진짜로 1,500만 원을 들고 오니까, 이 앞에서 무슨 축복쇼를 하는 척 하다가 순식간에 돈가방을 바꿔치기, 즉 밑장빼기를 시전하고 튀어버렸어.

So, when the grandma actually showed up with like, CAD 15,000 they put on this whole fake blessing show Then, quick as a flash they pulled a classic switcheroo with her money bag and just bolted!

6. 할머니는 가방을 바로 열어보지 말라는 말을 철석같이 믿고 있다가 11일 뒤에야 가족한테 사기당한 걸 들켰다고 하네.

The grandma totally fell for the “don't open the bag right away” line and it took 11 days for her family to realize she'd been ripped off

7. 두 번째 할머니는 며칠 뒤에 또 다른 3인조한테 당했는데, 이번엔 컨셉이 “가족의 건강을 지켜주는 기적의 의사”였어.

A few days later the second grandma got scammed by another trio and this time their whole schtick was a “miracle doctor who protects family health.”

8. 이 사기꾼들은 할머니랑 같이 버스까지 타고 은행에 가서 안전금고에 있던 현금 1억 2천만 원을 꺼내게 만들었대.

These scammers even hopped on the bus with the grandma to the bank and made her pull out around $117,600 CAD from her safety deposit box

9. 그리고 또 축복쇼 한 판 벌이고는 그대로 돈 들고 증발.

And then, after another blessing ritual, they just vanished with the cash.

10. 이건 또 일주일 뒤에 손자가 경찰에 신고해서 알려졌지.

This whole thing only came to light a week later when her grandson reported it to the police.

11. 경찰은 두 사건 다 동일범 소행으로 보고 있는데, 범인들이 중국 토이산(Toisan) 방언을 썼다는 공통점이 있대.

The cops reckon both these scams were pulled off by the same crew, and get this, they all spoke the Chinese Toisan dialect.

12. 경찰은 “아직 신고 안 한 피해자들 더 있을 것 같으니 제발 좀 알려달라”고 호소하는 중이야.

The police are urging, “If you haven't reported yet, please, come forward!”
