So, there was this absolutely horrific shooting in a tiny town called Tumbler Ridge, way up in northeast BC.2. 9명이나 목숨을 잃고 27명이 다친 너무 안타까운 일이었는데, 그중에서 12살 소녀 마야 게발라가 기적적으로 회복하고 있다는 소식이 전해졌어.
Nine people lost their lives and twenty-seven were injured in that tragedy but word is that 12-year-old Maya Guevara is making a miraculous recovery3. 마야는 당시 목과 머리에 총을 맞는 큰 부상을 입고 BC 어린이 병원으로 긴급 이송돼서 응급 수술을 받아야 했어.
Maya was shot in the neck and head so she was rushed to BC Children’s Hospital to get emergency surgery for her injuries4. 다행히도 마야의 부모님이 페이스북을 통해 딸이 믿을 수 없을 정도로 호전되고 있다고 근황을 알렸어.
Thankfully, Maya’s parents hopped on Facebook to share that their daughter is making an unbelievable recovery5. 얼마 전에는 스스로 숨을 쉴 수 있는지 확인하려고 기도 삽관 튜브를 뺐는데, 마야 엄마 말로는 그 과정이 정말 고통스러워 보였지만 딸이 아주 잘 이겨냈다고 해.
They recently took her off the ventilator to see if she could breathe solo and her mom said it looked super painful but Maya handled it like a total champ6. 조금씩 예전의 예쁜 모습을 되찾아가고 있대.
She’s slowly starting to look like her old beautiful self again7. 육체적인 상처가 워낙 커서 회복이 더디긴 하지만, 이제는 몸 왼쪽을 꽤 활발하게 움직이고 심지어 침대 끝을 딛고 스스로 몸을 일으키기도 한대.
Her physical injuries were so severe that recovery is taking a while, but she is moving her left side quite a bit and even pushing herself up from the edge of the bed on her own8. 아빠가 전하기로는 최근 CT 촬영 결과도 지금까지 본 것 중 가장 깨끗하게 나왔다고 하네.
Her dad says the latest CT scans came back the cleanest they’ve seen yet9. 물론 아직 완전히 안심할 단계는 아니고 하루하루 조심스럽게 지켜봐야 하지만, 마야가 스스로 이겨내려는 의지를 굳게 보여주고 있어서 가족들에게 큰 희망이 되고 있어.
Of course, we’re not out of the woods yet and need to take it day by day, but Maya’s strong will to pull through is giving her family so much hope.10. 오른쪽 팔다리도 아주 미세하게나마 움직인 적이 있고, 이제 왼쪽 눈이 빛에 반응하기 시작했대.
She’s even moved her right limbs ever so slightly, and now her left eye’s starting to respond to light.11. 작은 변화 같지만 가족들에겐 정말 기적 같은 발전이지.
It might seem like a small win, but for the family, it’s a total miracle.12. 하루하루 한 걸음씩 나아가다 보면 분명 다 같이 이겨낼 수 있을 거야.
