3. 밴쿠버 칼리지와 세인트 토마스 모어 칼리지도 금요일에 자신들의 학교 웹사이트를 통해 이 합의 사실을 공지했지.
Vancouver College and St. Thomas More also went public with the settlement on their sites this Friday.
4. 사건의 배경을 보면, 3년 전 BC주 대법원이 예전 학생들의 집단 소송(다수의 피해자가 모여서 대표로 제기하는 소송)을 승인하면서 시작됐어.
To give you some background, it all kicked off three years ago when the B.C. Supreme Court greenlit a class-action lawsuit from former students.
5. 학생들은 ‘크리스천 브라더스(전 세계적으로 활동하는 가톨릭 수도회)’ 소속 회원들에게 심각한 학대를 당했다고 폭로했거든.
The students blew the whistle on the Christian Brothers for the horrific abuse they had to endure.
6. 더 충격적인 건, 이 가해자들이 1976년에서 1983년 사이에 뉴펀들랜드에 있는 한 고아원에서 일하다가 이 학교들로 전근을 왔다는 거야.
What’s even more messed up is that these guys were transferred to these schools after working at an orphanage in Newfoundland from 1976 to 1983
7. 그런데 그 고아원에서도 이미 성적, 신체적 학대가 끔찍하게 만연했던 곳이라고 해.
As it turns out, that orphanage was already riddled with horrific sexual and physical abuse.
8. 워낙 민감하고 비극적인 사건이라 가슴이 아프지만, 이제라도 법적인 책임과 보상 절차가 진행되고 있어서 그나마 다행인 것 같아.
It’s heartbreaking because this case is so incredibly sensitive and tragic, but I’m relieved that legal action and compensation are finally underway at last.

I hope the victims can find at least a little bit of peace and start healing
