5. 구급대원들이 14층에 응급 환자가 있다는 신고를 받고 다급하게 출동했어.
The paramedics rushed to the 14th floor after getting a medical emergency call.
6. 1분 1초가 급한 상황에서 환자를 들것에 눕혀 엘리베이터에 태웠는데, 갑자기 문이 자꾸 닫히려고 하는 거야.
Every second counted, so they loaded the patient on a stretcher into the elevator, but suddenly the doors kept trying to shut.
7. 구급대원들이 환자를 보호하려고 문을 힘으로 꽉 막았는데, 부품이 워낙 낡고 상태가 메롱이다 보니 문이 아예 레일에서 덜컹하고 빠져버렸어.
The paramedics forcefully held the doors back to protect the patient, but the parts were so old and sketchy that the doors literally popped off the tracks.
8. 그 상태로 1층 로비까지 내려가는데 층마다 잠깐씩 멈추고 쇠 긁히는 소리가 끼익끼익 나고 아주 공포영화가 따로 없었지.
Going down to the ground-floor lobby like that, it kept stopping at every floor with this screeching metal noise, totally straight out of a horror movie.
9. 결국 1층에 도착했는데 문이 꼼짝도 안 하는 거야.
They finally made it down to the first floor, but the doors wouldn't budge an inch.
10. 안에 갇힌 구급대원들이 비상 인터폰으로 소방관에게 구조 요청을 하고, 개인 폰으로 병원에도 도착이 늦어진다고 연락을 돌렸어.
Trapped inside, the paramedics called the firefighters for rescue on the emergency intercom, and used their personal phones to give the hospital a heads-up that they were gonna be late.
11. 결국 소방대원들이 출동해서 조스 오브 라이프(Jaws of Life, 찌그러진 차량 등에서 사람을 구조할 때 쓰는 엄청나게 강력한 유압 절단기)까지 동원해서 억지로 문을 뜯어내고 나서야 밖으로 나올 수 있었어.
Eventually, firefighters showed up and had to bust out the Jaws of Life to pry the doors open just to get them out.
12. 무려 25분 동안이나 환자와 구급대원이 엘리베이터 안에 갇혀서 식은땀을 흘렸던 거지.
The patient and the paramedics were stuck sweating bullets in the elevator for a solid 25 minutes.
13. 나중에 기술안전국에서 조사해 보니까, 이 유일한 엘리베이터가 사고 나기 두 달 전부터 벌써 여섯 번이나 멈춰서 수리 기사를 불렀었대.
Turns out, Technical Safety BC looked into it, and this one and only elevator had already crapped out six times, needing a repair guy in the two months leading up to the accident.
14. 롤러 같은 부품이 너무 낡아서 더 이상 꽉 조일 수도 없는 노답 상태였는데 그냥 방치하며 굴렸던 거야.
Parts like the rollers were so beat up they couldn't even be tightened anymore, it was a total lost cause, but they just kept running it anyway.
15. 낡은 엘리베이터 하나만 믿고 버티다가 하마터면 인명사고로 이어질 뻔한 거지.
