8. 결국 상처 소독하고 파상풍 주사 한 대 맞고 집에 왔어.

I ended up getting my wound cleaned, got a tetanus shot, and headed home.

9. 사실 캐나다 의료 시스템이 대기 시간은 미치도록 길고, 병상은 부족하고, 인력은 갈려 나가는 등 문제투성이라고 매번 욕먹잖아.

10. 그런데 곰곰이 생각해 보면, 우리 아내 암 수술부터 내 목숨까지 구해준 정말 고마운 시스템이기도 해.

But when you get down to it it’s a total lifesaver that’s come through for us, from my wife’s cancer surgery to saving my own skin

11. 만약 미국 같은 민영화 시스템(환자가 병원비를 전액 부담하는 구조)이었다면, 우리 가족은 진작에 병원비 폭탄 맞고 길거리에 나앉았을지도 몰라.

If we had a privatized system where patients pay for everything themselves, my family would’ve been slapped with insane medical bills and ended up on the streets a long time ago.

12. 미국은 의료비 때문에 파산하는 1위 국가니까 말이야.

The U.S. is the top country where medical bills literally drive people into bankruptcy.

13. 결론적으로, 지옥 같은 스케줄을 버티는 의료진들에게는 그저 말로만 고맙다고 할 게 아니야.

The bottom line is, we can’t just give lip service to medical staff surviving hellish schedules.

14. 썩어가는 건물에 페인트칠만 하는 격이거든.

It is basically like putting a fresh coat of paint on a rotting building.

15. 찐으로 그분들 월급을 올려주고 인력을 대폭 늘려줘야 해.

We seriously need to bump up their pay and bring in a lot more staff

16. 노령 인구가 쓰나미처럼 몰려오고 있어서 앞으로 상황은 더 끔찍해질 거라는데, 진짜 근본적인 대책이 시급해.

With the aging population rolling in like a tsunami, things are about to get even more gnarly, so we desperately need a fundamental solution pronto.
