Four Canadians back from the MV Hondius cruise ship out of Ushuaia, Argentina, went straight into quarantine on Vancouver Island the moment they got home.
2. 그런데 그중 한 명이 안데스 변이 한타바이러스에 양성 판정을 받았다고 하네.
But it turns out one of them tested positive for the Andes variant hantavirus in the end.
3. 이 바이러스의 잠복기가 최장 42일로 꽤 긴 편이야.
The incubation period for this virus can last up to 42 days, which is a pretty long haul.
4. 처음엔 다들 증상이 없었는데, 70대 부부 중 한 명이 며칠 전부터 열과 두통을 호소하더니 결국 검사에서 양성이 나온 거지.
Nobody had any symptoms at first, but then one person from a couple in their 70s started complaining about a fever and headache a few days ago and ended up testing positive.
5. 같이 있던 배우자는 음성이 나왔지만, 일행들 모두 병원으로 옮겨지거나 집에서 철저하게 검사와 모니터링을 받고 있대.
Even though their spouse tested negative the whole crew was either rushed to the hospital or is being super closely watched at home.
6. 보니 헨리 브리티시컬럼비아주 보건관은 이런 상황을 이미 다 예상하고 계획을 세워뒀다고 밝혔어.
Dr. Bonnie Henry, BC's health officer, said they totally called it and had a game plan ready to go.
7. 환자들은 병실 공기가 밖으로 새어나가지 않는 특수 격리실(음압병실)에 머물고 있어서 밖으로 바이러스가 퍼질 위험은 없으니까 안심하라고 하더라고.
They told us not to worry because the patients are staying in negative-pressure rooms where the air can’t leak out, so there’s zero risk of the virus spreading.
8. 하지만 상황이 꽤 심각하긴 해.
But things are getting pretty serious, no joke
9. 이 크루즈선에서 시작된 집단 감염으로 벌써 3명이나 목숨을 잃었고, 프랑스나 영국 승객들도 위독해서 인공폐 치료를 받거나 중환자실에 있거든.
Three people have already died from the outbreak on this cruise, and some French and British passengers are in critical condition, either on life support or in the ICU.
10. 원래 한타바이러스는 감염된 쥐의 배설물이나 타액을 만지거나 마실 때 걸리는데, 세계보건기구(WHO)에 따르면 이번처럼 밀폐된 곳에서 오래 같이 지내면 사람 간 전염도 가능하다고 해.
Normally, you’d catch Hantavirus from infected rat droppings or spit, but the WHO claims it can spread between people in cramped spaces like this.
11. 처음엔 두통이나 구토 같은 증상으로 시작해서 갑자기 호흡 곤란이 올 수 있는 무서운 병이니까 다들 조심해야 해.
It kicks off with headaches or puking, and since you can suddenly struggle to breathe, it’s a nasty bug to watch out for.
