2. 월요일 저녁 7시쯤에 어떤 아저씨가 스핏 로드(Spit Road) 근처에서 평화롭게 러닝 뛰다가 흑곰 새끼 두 마리를 딱 마주친 거야.
Around 7 PM on Monday a guy was jogging peacefully near Spit Road when he ran into two black bear cubs
3. 귀엽다고 생각할 틈도 없이 갑자기 어미 곰이 풀악셀 밟고 돌진하더니 아저씨 팔다리에 시원하게 냥냥펀치(동물이 앞발로 때리는 것을 귀엽게 이르는 말)를 날리고 갔대.
Before he could even think how cute they were, the mother bear suddenly charged at full speed and swiped him hard on his arms and legs.
4. 불행 중 다행으로 가벼운 상처만 입고 끝났지만, 환경보호국은 식겁해서 바로 그 구역에 접근 금지 테이프 칭칭 감아놓고 출입 금지 팻말 박아놨어.
Luckily, he got away with only minor scratches but the Conservation Officer Service freaked out and immediately taped off the area and put up Keep Out signs
5. 이 동네가 스쿼미시 강이랑 철도 사이에 있는 꽤 넓은 습지인데, 사실 곰들 사이에서는 나름 핫플(사람이나 동물이 많이 모이는 인기 있는 장소)인가 봐.
This area is a pretty huge wetland between the Squamish River and the railway, but it seems like it's actually quite a hotspot for bears.
6. 지난 3월에도 여기서 걷고 있던 사람 두 명한테 흑곰이 돌진하는 아찔한 썰이 있었거든.
Back in March, there was a close call where a black bear charged at two people who were walking here.
7. 다행히 그때는 다친 사람은 없었어.
Luckily, no one was hurt back then.
8. 심지어 2022년 11월에도 곰들 때문에 아예 구역 전체가 통제된 적도 있고 말이야.
They even completely shut down the entire area back in November 2022 because of bears
9. 원래 흑곰 애들이 겨울잠에서 막 깨어나는 4월부터 11월까지가 완전 활동력 만렙(최고 레벨에 도달했다는 뜻의 게임 용어) 찍는 시기래.
Apparently, black bears are in absolute beast mode from April all the way to November right after they wake up from hibernation
10. 이맘때쯤이면 환경보호국에 곰 나왔다고 걸려오는 신고 전화만 1년에 1만 4천 통에서 2만 5천 통이라니까 말 다 했지.
Around this time of year, the conservation service gets flooded with 14,000 to 25,000 bear calls a year, which pretty much says it all.
11. 산책이나 러닝 할 때 곰 마주치지 않게 진짜 눈치 게임 잘해야 돼.
