Recently, a doctor examined a patient with a shoulder injury in the waiting room but got a bad vibe, so he waited for a bed to scan his stomach
5. 알고 보니 당장 응급 수술이 필요한 내출혈 환자였던 거야.
Turns out he had internal bleeding and needed emergency surgery right away
6. 병상이 없어서 하마터면 의자에 앉은 채로 큰일 날 뻔한 거지.
Because there were no beds he came this close to dying right in that waiting room chair
7. 심지어 난방도 안 되고 수도도 없는 구급차 차고지를 임시 병실로 쓰는 곳도 있다니까 말이 안 되지.
It's absolutely ridiculous that they are using ambulance garages with no heating or running water as makeshift patient rooms
8. 가장 큰 문제는 이 병목현상 때문에 진짜 위급한 사람들이 제때 치료를 못 받고 있다는 거야.
The main issue is that this bottleneck stops critically ill people from getting timely care
9. 최근 에드먼턴에 있는 병원 두 곳에서는 대기실에서 무려 8시간이나 기다리던 환자들이 안타깝게 목숨을 잃는 비극적인 사건까지 발생했어.
Just recently, patients at two Edmonton hospitals tragically passed away after waiting in the lobby for a whopping eight hours.
10. 원래 응급실은 환자의 프라이버시를 지켜주면서 안전하게 치료해야 하는 곳이잖아.
You know, the ER is supposed to be a safe space to treat patients while keeping their privacy
11. 그런데 지금은 액세스 블록(access block, 입원할 병실이 없거나 퇴원 후 갈 요양시설이 없어서 환자가 응급실에 계속 갇혀있는 현상) 때문에 제 기능이 완전히 마비된 상태야.
But now, because of access block, the ER is completely paralyzed.
12. 의사들도 이런 열악한 환경에서 제대로 된 진료를 할 수 없으니 매일 딜레마에 빠져서 고통받고 있대.
Doctors are apparently struggling every day, caught in a dilemma because they can't provide proper care under such crappy conditions.
13. 결국 캐나다의 만성적인 병상 부족과 지역사회 의료 지원 인프라가 턱없이 모자란 게 근본 원인이야.
At the end of the day, Canada's chronic bed shortages and the severe lack of community healthcare support are the root causes.
14. 하루빨리 시스템이 통째로 뜯어고쳐지지 않으면 이런 말도 안 되는 비극은 계속될 것 같아서 정말 씁쓸해.
It leaves a bitter taste in my mouth that these ridiculous tragedies will keep happening unless the system gets a complete overhaul as soon as possible
