This Monday, the BC Forests Minister talked a big game, ambitiously promising to heavily supply raw logs to the specialty wood industry.
2. 근데 딱 하루 만에 프린스 조지에 있는 노스우드 펄프 공장(나무를 끓여서 종이 원료로 만드는 곳)이 올해 말에 아예 문을 닫는다는 소식이 터진 거지.
But literally just a day later the news broke that the Northwood pulp mill in Prince George, boiling wood for paper, would shut down for good by the end of this year.
3. 하루아침에 300명이 일자리를 잃게 된 셈이야.
This basically leaves three hundred people out of a job overnight
4. 장관은 글로벌 시장에 펄프가 너무 많고, 산불 때문에 나무 구하러 멀리 가야 해서 운송비가 감당 안 된다고 실드 치더라고.
The minister made excuses, saying the global market is flooded with pulp and wildfires force them to haul wood from so far away that shipping costs are totally out of hand.
5. 하지만 공장 주인인 캔포(Canfor)의 입장은 달랐어.
But Canfor, the owner of the mill, had a totally different take on it.

In a nutshell, they just don't want to do business in BC anymore.
9. 사실 BC 펄프·제지 연합회는 이미 4년 전에 주정부한테 20쪽짜리 보고서까지 들이밀면서 제발 원목 공급 좀 늘려달라고 싹싹 빌었어.

10. 그때 10년 안에 공장 5개가 문 닫을 거라고 경고했는데, 진짜로 이번 연말이면 벌써 5개째 문 닫기 일보 직전이거든.
They warned back then that five mills would shut down within ten years, and sure enough, by the end of this year, the fifth one is on the brink of closing

We’ve been saying this for four years until we’re blue in the face, but the mills are shutting down anyway, and innocent jobs are just vanishing into thin air in this frustrating mess.
