1. 밴쿠버 시민들의 큰 사랑을 받았던 그라우스 산의 마스코트, 회색곰(북미 지역에 서식하는 덩치 큰 불곰) 그라인더가 안타깝게도 무지개다리를 건넜어.
Sadly, Grinder the grizzly bear, Grouse Mountain’s beloved mascot, deeply loved by Vancouverites, just crossed the rainbow bridge.
2. 지난 2001년 인버미어(캐나다 BC주 동남부의 작은 산골 마을)에서 고아가 된 새끼 곰으로 발견된 후 구조되어서 무려 25년 동안이나 우리 곁에 있었지.
He was rescued as an orphaned cub in Invermere back in 2001 and stayed with us for 25 whole years
3. 그런데 최근에 척추 쪽에 돌이킬 수 없는 병이 생겨서 뒷다리 전체가 영구적으로 마비되는 상태가 왔대.
But recently he developed an irreversible spinal condition that permanently paralyzed his back legs
4. 병세가 너무 빠르게 악화되고 회복할 가망도 없어서, 결국 동물 보호소 측에서 안락사(고통을 덜어주기 위해 편안하게 생명을 마감하도록 돕는 것)라는 정말 가슴 아픈 결정을 내리게 됐어.
His health went downhill way too fast with zero chance of recovery, so the sanctuary made the heartbreaking call to put him down.
5. 담당 수의사 선생님도 “수많은 사람들이 사랑했던 곰을 위해 심사숙고 끝에 내린 결정”이라며 슬퍼하더라고.
Even the vet in charge was heartbroken saying they made this tough call after careful thought for a bear that so many people really loved
6. 야생 회색곰 수명이 보통 20살에서 30살 사이니까, 자연의 섭리대로 살다 간 거라고 볼 수 있어.
Since grizzly bears in the wild usually live to be 20 to 30, you could say he lived out his full natural lifespan.
7. 그라인더는 평생의 단짝이었던 곰 쿨라와 함께 야생동물 보호의 중요성을 알리는 든든한 홍보대사였어.
Grinder and his lifelong buddy Coola were total champions for raising awareness about the importance of wildlife conservation
8. 매년 봄마다 이 두 녀석이 겨울잠에서 깨어나는 모습은 웹캠으로 생중계될 정도로 인기가 많았지.
Every spring, watching these two wake up from hibernation was such a huge hit that it was broadcast live on webcam
9. 다행히 친구 쿨라는 아직 건강하게 잘 지내고 있대.
Thankfully, his buddy Coola is doing awesome and going strong without any problems.
10. 전문가들의 감독 아래 쿨라가 그라인더의 곁에서 마지막 인사를 나눌 수 있는 애도의 시간도 가졌다고 하니까 마음이 찡하네.
It really hits you right in the feels to hear that Coola had time to mourn and say one last goodbye by Grinder's side under the watchful eye of experts
11. 25년 동안 우리에게 큰 기쁨을 줬던 그라인더가 이제는 아프지 않고 편안하게 쉬었으면 좋겠다.
I hope Grinder, who brought us so much joy for 25 years, can now rest in peace pain-free.
