An interview just dropped with Rebecca Bligh who’s running for mayor of Vancouver
She was super confident that if she gets elected mayor, Vancouver will be way more livable four years down the road.
She said City Hall has too many closed doors, and it is totally infuriating that small business owners jump through hoops for years just to get a single permit, so she will launch a dedicated desk for them.
Saying it makes zero sense that it takes five years to open a patio, she said City Hall will step up and clear away all these roadblocks.
Plus, the housing prices in Vancouver are totally insane right now, you know?
Bligh pointed out that we can’t just look at housing costs, but gotta see the bigger picture, like childcare and decent jobs.
She plans to team up with the feds, make the most of city-owned land, and seriously ramp up non-market housing.
On top of that, calling out City Hall for being super polarized and constantly fighting, she pitched herself as a bridge-builder who can actually build consensus.
She especially dropped some brutal truth bombs about the raging drug and homelessness crisis hitting the Downtown Eastside hard lately
She called out current mayor Ken Sim for just cramming homeless people into hotels without proper support
She says she’s gonna build supportive housing with real-deal support like mental health counseling, job training, and free meals.
Her bottom line is that she isn't just going soft on crime, but we need a mayor who can tackle the root causes and deliver real solutions.
Let’s all wait and see if Vancouver can really become a top-notch and livable city again.
