It’s a 2.26-billion-dollar hospital in total, and they’re supposed to start taking patients in early 2027.
4. 근데 함정이 하나 있어.
But there’s just one catch, though.

They said it was fully done, but there’s still stuff left to build.
6. 병원 운영하는 Providence Health Care가 입찰 공고를 냈는데, 새 병원 옥상을 반쯤 냉난방되는 야외 OPS(과다복용 예방 시설, 약물 사용자가 의료진이 지켜보는 데서 안전하게 약을 쓰는 곳)로 바꾸는 공사래.
Providence Health Care, who runs the hospital, just put out a tender to turn the new hospital rooftop into a semi-conditioned outdoor overdose prevention site.
7. 10월 28일에 시작해서 1월 29일에 끝낼 계획이고, 공사비는 원래 전체 예산에 들어가 있었대.
They’re planning to kick off on October 28 and wrap up by January 29, and apparently the whole construction cost was already baked into the original budget.
8. 웃긴 건 봄에 언론 투어할 땐 OPS 얘기가 1도 없었다는 거야.
The funny thing is, there was literally zero mention of the OPS during the media tour this spring.
9. 물어보니까 최근에 정한 거라 그렇대.
Well, when people asked about it, they said it's because they'd only just decided on it recently.
10. 인터뷰는 선거 기간이라 안 된다고 했고, 정부도 지금 관리 모드(caretaker mode, 선거 기간에 정부가 꼭 필요한 업무만 하는 상태)라서 할 말 없다며 입 꾹 닫았어.
They turned down every interview request because of the ongoing election season, and the government totally clammed up, saying they are in caretaker mode with no comment at all.
11. 병상 548개에 전부 1인실이고 화장실도 따로 있는 최신식 병원이긴 해.
To be fair, it’s a state-of-the-art hospital with 548 beds that are all private, each with its own private bathroom.
12. 근데 2019년 발표 땐 예산 19억 달러에 올해 개원 예정이었거든.
But get this — back in 2019, they announced it'd cost $1.9 billion and open this year.
13. 돈은 3억 6천만 달러 더 들고 개원은 밀리고.
It cost an extra 360 million dollars, and the grand opening got pushed back.
14. 보수당 Misty Van Popta 의원은 그 초과 비용이면 고등학교 3개나 장기요양시설을 지었겠다고 팩폭 날렸어.
Conservative MLA Misty Van Popta straight up called them out saying that kind of overspending could've built three whole high schools or a long-term care home instead
15. 본인은 병원 투어도 못 가게 막혔고, 6월에 정보공개청구(FOI)를 넣었는데 아직도 답이 없대.
She got blocked from touring the hospital, and filed an FOI request back in June, but she still hasn’t heard back.
16. 사람 문제도 있어. 병원은 1,000명 넘게 뽑는 중이라는데, BC 보건과학협회 Sarah Kooner 회장은 밴쿠버 물가에 전문 인력 구하기가 너무 빡세다고 걱정했어.
