Around 10:25 on Wednesday morning, a really tragic accident happened in the Tsawwassen Mills parking lot out in South Delta.
2. 검은색 픽업트럭이 보행자 네 명을 덮치는 바람에, 트와센 부족(Tsawwassen First Nation, 캐나다 원주민 부족 중 하나)의 존경받는 원로 두 분이 목숨을 잃으셨어.
A black pickup truck plowed into four pedestrians, and two respected Tsawwassen First Nation elders tragically lost their lives.

The ones who passed away were Virginia Splockton and Barb Joe, and both of them played a huge role in the local Indigenous community.
4. 스플록턴 할머니는 공예와 노래를 사랑하시며 부족 행사를 늘 빛내주시던 따뜻한 증조할머니셨고, 조 할머니는 부족의 고유 언어인 코스트 살리시어(Coast Salish, 북미 태평양 연안 원주민들의 언어)를 가르치며 전통을 이어가던 든든한 기둥 같은 분이셨지.
Grandma Splockton was a warm-hearted great-grandmother who loved crafts and singing and always lit up tribal events, while Grandma Joe was a pillar of strength who kept their rich traditions alive by teaching the native Coast Salish language.
5. 게다가 사고가 난 날이 진실과 화해의 날(National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, 캐나다 원주민 기숙학교 피해자들을 추모하는 법정 공휴일)이었어.
On top of that, the crash happened on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
6. 이분들은 쇼핑몰 입구에 세워질 전통 기둥 제막식을 준비하던 중이셨다고 해.
Apparently, they were getting ready for the unveiling of a traditional pole going up at the mall entrance.
7. 추모와 화합의 날에 이런 비극이 생겨서 지역 사회의 충격이 더 큰 상황이야.
It hit the community way harder because this tragedy happened on a day meant for remembrance and unity.
8. 현장에는 다른 두 명도 헬기로 병원에 이송됐지만 아직 위독한 상태래.
Two other people were airlifted to the hospital, but they are still in critical condition.
9. 사고를 낸 트럭 운전자는 병원 치료 후 퇴원했고, 경찰은 운전자의 갑작스러운 응급 질환이 원인이었는지 등 정확한 사고 경위를 조사 중이야.
The truck driver involved in the crash got treated and released from the hospital, and the cops are digging into whether a sudden medical emergency caused it.
10. 마크 카니 총리도 소셜 미디어를 통해 비통한 마음을 전했고, 원주민 보건국도 원로들의 헌신이 없었다면 진실과 화해의 날도 없었을 거라며 애도를 표했어.
Prime Minister Mark Carney took to social media to share his heartbreak over the tragedy, and the First Nations Health Authority paid tribute, saying there wouldn’t even be reconciliation day without the selfless dedication of these elders.
11. 남은 부상자분들도 무사히 회복하시길 바랄 뿐이야.
I just really hope that the other injured folks can pull through and make a full recovery.
