Since he ended up bailing on his promise, it basically became history’s most expensive bounced check.
5. 이비는 애초에 물가 걱정이나 미국과의 관세 전쟁 운운하더니, 나중에는 탄소세(온실가스 배출량에 따라 매기는 세금)를 없애는 걸로 퉁치기로 했다고 변명하더라.
Eby first made excuses about inflation and a tariff war with the US, then claimed they’d make up for it by getting rid of the carbon tax.
6. 근데 웃긴 건, 탄소세 폐지 지지는 선거 캠페인 시작 10일 전에 이미 철회했었단 말이지?
The funny thing is, he’d already walked back his support for scrapping the carbon tax ten days before the campaign even kicked off.
7. 그러면서 이번에는 기름값을 잡겠다며 휘발유 리터당 10센트 세금 인하랑 기름값 상한제를 비장의 무기처럼 들고나왔어.
And this time around he whipped out a 10-cent-a-litre gas tax cut and a price cap like his secret weapon to tackle sky-high gas prices.
8. 정유사들이 폭리 취하는 걸 막겠다는 건데, 정작 전문가들은 BC주가 미국에서 기름을 수입해서 쓰는 처지라 가격을 억지로 묶어두면 품귀 현상만 생기고 주유소에 끝없는 줄만 길어질 거라고 꼬집고 있어.
He claims it will stop oil companies from price gouging everyday drivers, but experts point out that since BC imports its gas from the US, artificially capping prices will just cause shortages and endless lines at the pump.
9. 게다가 이런 제도를 통과시키려면 법안을 만들어야 해서 당장 의회가 열려야 하거든?
Plus, to get this kind of policy through, they have to pass legislation, so the legislature needs to meet right now.
10. 근데 본인이 굳이 필요도 없는 조기 선거를 덜컥 열어버리는 바람에 가을 의회 일정을 싹 다 취소시켜버렸단 말이야.
But he had to go and call a completely unnecessary snap election, which ended up wiping out the entire fall legislative session.
11. 그래놓고 금요일에는 또 식료품점 폭리를 잡겠다며 물가 잡기 코스프레를 시전 중이지.
And then on Friday, he’s back at it, putting on a whole show about cracking down on grocery price gouging.
12. 지난번 선거 때 똑같은 문제를 해결하겠다고 큰소리쳐놓고 아무것도 안 한 사람이 또 저러고 있으니까, 참 아이러니하지 않냐?
Isn’t it super ironic that the guy who talked a big game about fixing this exact issue last election did absolutely nothing and is now pulling the exact same stunt again?
