1. 일요일 아침부터 버나비(BC주에 있는 도시) 킹스웨이 애비뉴에 있는 한 주택가에서 꽤 심각한 사건이 터졌어.
A pretty serious incident went down on Sunday morning in a residential neighborhood along Kingsway Avenue in Burnaby
2. 어떤 남자가 흉기를 들고 소동을 피우다가 결국 출동한 경찰이 쏜 총에 맞는 일이 발생했거든.
This guy caused a scene with a weapon and ended up getting shot by responding cops
3. 누군가 경찰 총에 맞은 중대한 사건이다 보니 지금 동네 분위기가 무척 뒤숭숭해.
Since someone getting shot by the cops is such a huge deal, the whole neighborhood is totally on edge.
4. RCMP(캐나다 왕립 기마경찰대, 캐나다의 연방 경찰)가 발표한 내용을 보면, 일요일 오전 10시 15분쯤에 소란이 있다는 신고를 받고 경찰관들이 현장에 도착했대.
According to the RCMP, officers showed up at the scene around 10:15 Sunday morning after getting a call about a disturbance.
5. 그런데 그 남자가 날이 선 흉기를 들고 경찰관들한테 막 위협적으로 다가왔다는 거야.
Turns out the guy came at the cops, aggressively holding an edged weapon.
6. 상황이 워낙 긴박하고 통제가 안 되다 보니, 결국 경찰관 한 명이 어쩔 수 없이 소지하고 있던 총을 쐈고 남자가 거기에 맞은 거지.
With things getting totally out of hand one cop had no choice but to fire and the guy ended up getting shot
7. 정말 다행인 건, 총에 맞은 이 남자 말고 다른 주민들이나 경찰관 중에는 다친 사람이 아무도 없다는 거야.
Thankfully, besides the guy who got shot, none of the neighbors or officers got hurt.
8. 총에 맞은 남자는 현장에서 즉시 구급대원들에게 응급처치를 받고 병원으로 급히 실려 갔어.
The guy who got shot was treated on the spot by paramedics and rushed straight to the hospital
9. 현재 상태가 어떤지, 생명에 지장이 있는지는 아직 정확히 안 알려진 상황이야.
It’s still not clear how he’s doing, or if his injuries are life-threatening.
10. 일단 경찰이 사람에게 총을 쏜 사건이기 때문에, 현재 이 사건은 IIO(독립수사국, 경찰의 총기 사용이나 중상 및 사망 사건을 객관적으로 조사하는 BC주 외부 기관)로 바로 넘어간 상태야.
Since it involves a police shooting, this case has been handed over to the IIO right away.
11. 이제 IIO(독립수사국)에서 객관적으로 본격적인 수사를 시작했기 때문에, RCMP 측에서는 이 사건에 대해 더 이상 추가적인 정보를 당분간 발표하지 않겠다고 하네.
Since the IIO is officially looking into this, the RCMP said they won't be sharing any more details on it for now.
12. 아무래도 흉기가 등장하고 총격까지 이어진 꽤나 무거운 사건이라, 정확한 사건 경위나 과잉 진압 여부 같은 수사 결과를 차분히 지켜봐야 할 것 같아.
With a weapon involved and shots being fired, making it a pretty heavy case overall, I guess we have to wait and see what the investigation turns up about what happened and whether the cops crossed the line.
13. 킹스웨이 근처에 사는 사람들은 주말 아침부터 사이렌 소리 듣고 진짜 가슴 철렁했을 것 같아.
The folks living around Kingsway must have had a mini heart attack hearing all those sirens on a weekend morning
