The catch is they’re planning to cut the existing 50-meter lanes in half down to just 25 meters.
5. 수영 좀 친다는 사람들이랑 선수들은 “이러면 대회 준비는 어디서 하냐, 전국적인 수영장 가뭄이다”라며 폼 다 죽는다고 극대노했지.
Serious swimmers and competitive athletes totally lost it, complaining that they would completely lose their edge, and asking where they are supposed to train for meets during a nationwide pool drought.
6. 결국 ‘밴쿠버 아쿠아틱 센터 지키기 위원회(수영장 크기 축소에 반대하는 시민 단체)’가 뿔나서 법원에 가처분 신청을 냈고, 이게 먹혀서 일단 철거가 멈춘 상황이야.
So the pissed-off Save VAC committee filed for a court injunction, and it actually worked, putting the demolition on pause for now.
7. 위원회 측은 “이건 단순히 시간 벌기용일 뿐이고, 새 공원위원회(공원과 체육 시설을 관리하는 시의회 산하 기구)가 25미터 계획을 완전히 엎지 않으면 가처분 기간 끝나고 다시 철거될 거다”라며 긴장의 끈을 안 놓고 있어.
The committee is staying on high alert, saying this is just buying time, and unless the new park board totally scraps the 25-meter plan, it’s getting torn down anyway once the injunction runs out.
8. 타이밍도 묘한 게, 마침 선거철이라 정치권에서도 이 수영장 떡밥을 덥석 물었어.
Talk about crazy timing, with election season right around the corner, politicians jumped all over this pool drama.
9. 다들 표심 좀 얻어보겠다고 “우리가 50미터 수영장 지켜주겠다” 혹은 “부지가 좁으면 다른 동네에라도 새로 파주겠다” 하면서 앞다투어 공약을 던지는 중이야.
They’re all scrambling to make promises just to score some easy votes, saying “we’ll save the 50-meter pool” or “we’ll build one somewhere else if the site is too tight.”
