2. 그랬더니 예전에 전임 주수상이었던 존 호건한테 이 법을 만들라고 징징대며 압박했던 원주민 대표 두 명이 지금 완전 극대노 상태야.
So now the two Indigenous leaders who whined and pressured former Premier John Horgan into passing this law back then are absolutely losing their minds
3. 테리 티지 원주민 총회 지역 대표는 “법 폐지하면 진짜 큰 코 다칠 줄 알아라, 앞으로 원주민 허락 없는 프로젝트는 시위와 소송의 쓴맛을 보게 될 거다”라며 엄청나게 엄포를 놨어.
Terry Teegee dropped a huge warning: ditch this law and you’ll pay big, because projects without our sign-off will face nasty protests and lawsuits.
4. 스튜어트 필립 원주민 연합 대표도 “이건 전쟁 선포나 다름없다, 벌써 전투 북소리가 들린다”라며 살벌하게 나오고 있지.
Indigenous leader Stewart Phillip is coming out swinging, saying this is basically a declaration of war, and you can already hear the war drums.
5. 원래 이 법이 어떻게 만들어졌냐면, 예전에 호건 전 주수상이 조약 맺자고 하니까 원주민 대표들이 “당신 진짜 바보냐”면서 딜을 뻥 찼어.
How this law actually came about was, when former Premier Horgan tried to make a treaty, Indigenous leaders basically called him an idiot and kicked the deal to the curb.
6. 대신 UNDRIP(유엔 원주민 권리 선언)에 맞춰서 BC주 법을 싹 다 뜯어고치라고 요구한 거지.
Instead, they demanded a total overhaul of BC laws to line up with UNDRIP.
7. 결국 호건이 굴복해서 만들어진 게 바로 이 골칫거리 법안이야.
So Horgan totally caved in, and that’s how we ended up with this giant headache of a bill.
8. 근데 이 법 때문에 진짜 머리 아픈 일들이 한두 개가 아니야.
Honestly though, this law has caused way too many massive headaches
9. 걸핏하면 원주민들이 주정부랑 땅이랑 자원을 공동으로 통치하겠다고 나서고, 툭하면 소송을 걸어서 잘만 진행되던 프로젝트들이 줄줄이 멈추고 있거든.
Every chance they get, First Nations step up to co-govern land and resources with the province, slapping lawsuits left and right and bringing perfectly good projects to a screeching halt.
10. 전임 데이비드 이비 주수상도 이 법 때문에 골머리를 앓다가 좀 고쳐보려고 했는데 당내 반대에 부딪혀서 결국 실패하고 말았어.
Even former Premier David Eby got massive headaches over this law and tried to tweak it a bit, but he hit pushback from his own party and ended up falling completely flat.
11. 하지만 우리의 더크슨 새 주수상은 완전 노빠꾸 불도저야.
But our new Premier Dirkson is a straight-up bulldozer who has no reverse gear at all
12. “맨날 법원에서 치고받고 싸우기만 하고 해결된 건 하나도 없다”면서 아예 법안 자체를 흔적도 없이 갈아엎겠다고 단단히 벼르고 있어.
Saying they just duke it out in court with nothing ever getting resolved, he’s dead set on wiping out the whole bill without a trace.
13. 원주민 대표들이 아무리 협박하든 말든 눈도 깜짝 안 할 기세지.
He won't even bat an eye no matter how much Indigenous leaders threaten him
14. 앞으로 이 법안 폐지가 더크슨의 보수당 선거 공약을 실천하는 첫 번째 뚝심 있는 행보가 될 것 같아서, 팝콘 각 제대로 잡고 지켜봐야 할 것 같아.
Scrapping this bill will probably be Dirksen’s first gutsy move to deliver on his Conservative campaign promises, so we should definitely grab some popcorn and watch.
